The City of Fontana has decided to take action and provide affordable housing options by cutting the ribbon to Aldea Apartments, a 78 unit space that offers the community what the city calls, “…not just apartments but homes.”
In the fight to prevent homelessness the City of Fontana implements the next step in their Homeless Solutions Action Plan in which they make a commitment to reduce homelessness within the community. This three step action plan is the city’s way of combating the ongoing issue of homelessness where they promise to create network enhancements, provide critical support services and safety, and acquire long term housing opportunities for those transitioning out of homelessness.
With increased housing costs there seems to be nowhere to turn when it comes to finding a livable space for a reasonable cost. Additionally for those who have suffered homelessness finding affordable housing can seem as an unattainable goal. In order to give a helping hand to the community, the City of Fontana has embarked on a lease agreement with Aldea Apartments, a 78 unit apartment space that will assist families on their journey out of homelessness. On January 29, 2025 the Mayor of Fontana accompanied Fontana’s city council members stood hand in hand with San Bernardino’s Second District Supervisor, Jesse Armendarez, as they cut the ribbon to the newly renovated apartment complex located on 15168 Foothill Blvd. The Mayor of Fontana, Acquanetta Warren, states,
“There are 78 homes, see these are not just apartments, they’re people’s homes and they are offering one and two bedroom units. And this facility represents the significant investment in our community. 70 of these units will be leased at 80 percent of the area meaning income, making the first city sponsored affordable housing development.”
In collaboration with Aldea Fontana LLC the City of Fontana housing department has approved a five-year lease agreement to rent these apartments to those transitioning out of homelessness and into long term housing as a support system for rehabilitation. This initiative is their third and final step in the city’s ongoing Homeless Solutions Action Plan where they plan to continue finding new housing facilities for individuals in need. Affordable housing can be seen as a vital step in the fight for homelessness prevention but the City of Fontana’s commitment to reduce it can be seen as a step in the right direction.
